The Newcastle "Sapphire Engineering Diamonds" have found themselves nursing an injury going into Sunday's national SGB Championship Fours event which may knock their chances of silverware at the end of the afternoon which gets underway at 2.00pm at Peterborough.
Robert Lambert has been ruled out by doctors with a leg injury picked up after a heavy fall during the last race at King's Lynn on Wednesday as Team manager George English explains: "Robert is battered and bruised from a series of heavy falls over the last month or so, and was strapped up from head to toe in his last meeting for us last Sunday, so determined was he to race.
"Unfortunately his Heat 15 smash on Wednesday has finally put him out of action which is a massive, massive disappointment to us as we honestly thought we had a chance of victory in the fours.
"Although you never know as we will be promoting former Peterborough rider, Ashley Morris from reserve to cover his rides, so we're not completely out of is yet as Speedway has a habit of throwing up unexpected heroes in Fours' events."
Lambert's condition will be monitored as the days go by with the hope he might return to the Diamonds' ranks sooner than later, but at this early stage it is most definitely a waiting game.
