The Newcastle Diamonds Speedway Management and Promotion had more good news for their loyal fans this week with the announcement of the third rider they have signed for the 2018 season.
Like the previous two announcements, Ashley Morris and Stuart Robson, it was a rider well known to The Diamonds fans and a rider that has become synonymous with the Tyneside track as Skipper Ludvig Lindgren will return for his seventh consecutive season at The Club.

Ludvig was delighted to be able to re-sign for Newcastle and really pleased to see a new promoter coming on board in Martin Phillips who he feels will help secure the Club’s long-term future.

“I’m very happy to be back at home. A bit later than I’d hoped for but with the circumstances the Promotion have had to deal with it’s understandable. It’s always good to have fresh people in with fresh ideas.”

“I’ve spoken to Martin before since I’ve been riding with Danny and I think he has a very healthy view on speedway and one that I share with him. I would do anything for him to help make Speedway grow in the North East.”

“Seven seasons is not something you can just brush under the carpet and it’s something I’m very proud of! And I think the future looks bright! It’s a club who has a lot of history.”

“I’m also Captain in Indianerna in Sweden which has former Diamonds Bjarne Pedersen and Kenneth Bjerre to ride with, so we share many good memories of the club and I also get to listen to their stories about the club which is always fun."

With his place finally secured in England with The Diamonds, Ludvig has now had to change the focus of his plans for the forthcoming season and is always on the look-out to ride as often as he can.

“It’s going good back home in Sweden but, obviously, I didn’t know if I was to ride in Britain or not until just recently so now I’ve got to start organising stuff across the water! I ride for two clubs in Sweden and I’m Captain for both, so I’ve got a lot on my plate team wise.”

“But I like to be busy during the season so signing for Newcastle is great and if an Elite Club came in for me as well I’d look at that very closely. As they say, never say never.”

“I still have a lot of stuff to be purchase to get my bikes ready for the season and a very small budget as it stands. But I will do my best to get as good gear as I can afford which hopefully will be perfect.”

Ludde is always on the lookout for sponsors and offers some great sponsorship opportunities. He’s always open to offers as he explained.

“Just send me an Email at ludvig@ludviglindgren.eu and i will send you my PDF folder and then we can take it from there! But also, I’m keen to listen to anyone’s ideas on what to do so don’t hesitate just drop me an email or write to me on twitter @LindgrenRacing.”

So, what is “Captain Lightning” as he’s fondly known as by The Diamonds hoping for the team and himself in 2018? He is realistic about expectations and has a message for the Brough Park faithful.

“I hope that we can get some spirit back in The Toon and make it a party on a Sunday at Brough Park, and that we have an injury free season with some trophies to show for it!”

“I’d like to say thank you to the fans that cheer me on week in and week out and to them who don’t like me? Well I’d like to thank you too because as long as you support the team I’m happy and if I can make you smile at least once or twice a season that’ll do me!”
