Ludvig Lindgren leads from the front vs. Ipswich

Newcastle "Boiler Technical Services" Diamonds' captain, Lightning Ludvig Lindgren lived right up to his nickname on Sunday taking 17+1 superb points from his seven rides.
His display was one of near-perfection on a night that Newcastle and Ipswich were locked throughout and ended up with a finely fought 45-45 draw, and in a match were every point was critical, the skipper's superlative total was inspirational.

Having worked on a new engine for much of the week, testing it to the limits, his toils paid off with a superb Heat One win over Ipswich guest Ben Barker from a "Lightning" gate, just missing out to Rory Schlein in Heat Six for two more battled-for points.

Schlein did it again over the skip in Heat Nine, a tactical substitute ride for Lindgren who moved his tally on to seven as Newcastle trailed by six points, however the Diamonds' captain took Heat 10 for a further three backed up by the hard-working Tero Aarnio who had to fend of Josh Pickering all race.

Ludvig took his score to 13 in Heat 11 as rider replacement, beating Barker well for a second time after a very tough gate between the pair and then took huis score to a new 2018 high of 16 with another win in Heat 13, starting like a rocket to wreak his revenge on Schlein, although the Witch took the Heat 15 win again as Lindgen came in third for a paid second behind Aarnio.

Ludvig has had to absorb an unfair degree of criticism over the years, but any riders who can take a paid 18 against a side as good as Ipswich ain't a bad guy to have in your corner, not by any means.
