It was the opening round of the British Youth Championship at Redcar last Saturday.
The Newcastle Teen Print Gems were represented by Archie Freeman and Danny Smith both of whom have ridden well at the Media Prima Arena in the past and were looking forward to the occasion.
And it turned out to be superb representation too as both youngsters competing in the 150cc class did themselves and The Gems proud with fantastic performances that made everyone on Tyneside proud.
Danny who is competing at this level for the first time certainly showed he’s well capable of justifying his place in this competition with a great win first time out and a well-ridden second place in his last ride giving him a very respectable five points overall.
But, it was 13-year-old teenage tearaway Archie who stole the show and produced a memorable and wonderful performance. Buoyed by his excellent start to the Northern Junior League season which has already seen him pick up two maximums he was unstoppable and unbeatable on the day.
He raced through his four qualifying rides with style racking up a maximum 12-points to take his place in the afternoon’s 150cc final and then completed a great day’s work by streaking away to win the opening round in fine unbeaten style.
A wonderful moment for a young man who is already making people sit up and take notice.
A young man to look out for in the future that’s for sure both in the rest of this year’s British Youth Championship and hopefully many years to come.
