BTS Diamonds back from summer break on Sunday at 6.30pm vs. Glasgow
Friday 3rd August 2018, 21:06 UK
LAWRENCE HEPPELL
After a month out of action the Newcastle "BTS" Diamonds return to track action tomorrow (6.30pm) when they welcome the Glasgow Tigers to Brough Park for a long-awaited SGB Championship league match.

Glasgow are currently just in third place in the table, one place and one point ahead of Berwick, but have made two, perhaps shock, changes to their line up in recent weeks. The injured Lewis Kerr and Richie Worrall have both been dropped in favour current Grand Prix rider and Team GB star, Craig Cook and Nathan Greaves.

Awful luck befell Greaves as he almost went over the Glasgow fence in his debut meeting and is still sitting on the side lines nurturing his recovery with rider-replacement covering his four rides in Byker tomorrow while Cook is raring to go after a blistering display of confidence at Cardiff's British Grand Prix a fortnight ago, winning three of his races before hitting a rut and launching his machine up and over the safety fence in dramatic style.

Newcastle team boss, George English is desperately keen to get his men back in action, saying: "Its rare we sit back for so long in speedway, and its been like we've had our summer holidays, but when you get momentum up and running, to sit out for as long it far from ideal, and while it almost feels like starting the season all over again, we will be aiming to hit these Tigers hard from the start as they cannot be underestimated in any way.

"We are also without Matej Kus as he had a previously arranged meeting in his own country, the Czech Republic, so sadly will not be with us tomorrow.

"They are clutching at a tenuous play-off place and have stated publicly they need away wins to add to their home record and we know they'll be out all guns blazing tomorrow, especially as they took a significant beating at Berwick just last Saturday night which makes them even more dangerous than usual, and with Cook in their side as well as former Grand Prix rider, Chris "Bomber" Harris then it is sure to be a superb display of speedway, which we simply must win as our current place of 10th is certainly not what we had in mind."

With Kus away on Czech league action, Tero Aarnio is also away on Finnish Championship duty where he is joint favourite with Timo Lahti to take the title.

Rider replacement and Jordan Stewart will cover the absent rider's outings.

Team line-ups:

Newcastle: Stuart Robson (captain), Ludvig Lindgren, Matej Kus - rider replacement, Ashley Morris, Jordan Stewart (guest), Carl Wilkinson, Matthew Wethers

Glasgow: Craig Cook, Nathan Greaves - Rider replacement, Aaron Summers (guest for Vissing), Paul Starke, Chris Harris(captain), James Sarjeant, Jack Thomas
