The ultimate all or nothing for Diamonds at Workington

Tonight is the ultimate make or break for the Newcastle "BTS" Diamonds with any future speedway activity in 2018 directly resting upon the result the Byker seven can achieve at the Workington Comets in the decisive leg of the SGB Championship Knockout Cup Quarter Final with tapes-up at 7.30pm.

Workington are undoubtedly odds-on favourites to progress and take the semi up to Edinburgh, holding a 50-40 point lead over Newcastle, plus Ty Proctor is planning a return from injury in time for tonight's action. The Comets have again drafted in Berwick's Aaron Summers as a guest for Dan Bewley, a guest who scored 18+1 from seven rides at Brough Park for the Comets in the league just five days ago.

Nikolaj Klindt is also back in harness for the Cumbrian outfit after missing UK fixtures of late due to his commitment to his Polish side's league play-offs, so, it's a tough ask in anyone's book, but as Diamonds' team manager George English says: "This is speedway and anything can happen in 15 heats of racing so to those who have completely written us off without any doubt, this game can be totally unpredictable at time, so whilst it's looking gloomy for us, the writing on the wall is only in pencil at the moment, not black spray paint.

"So, our full-strength side, with rider-replacement for Matej Kus of course, will take to the track tonight knowing if they are to get more matches, then need to pull all the stops out and hammer hard from the off, for beating Workington on their own shale is never easy, but its all or nothing for us now, nothing to lose, just hard speedway to race and points to get, and maybe, just maybe, we can throw a few vital curve-balls at the Comets!"

Tonight's Line-up

Workington: Nikolaj Klindt, Aaron Summers (guest), Rasmus Jensen, Rene Bach, Ty Proctor (captain), Kyle Bickley, Mason Campton

Newcastle: Ludvig Lindgren, Matej Kus - Rider replacement, Ashley Morris, Tero Aarnio, Stuart Robson, Carl Wilkinson, Matthew Wethers
