Many expected a Finnish rider to be riding around Brough Park for the 2019 season, not many expected it to be this one.
The Newcastle Diamonds have landed their second rider for the 90th anniversary season in 2019. Flamboyant Finnish flyer Nike Lunna is the latest to join the Tyneside Club as they continue to build for the forthcoming campaign.

The 22-year-old former Finnish Under-21 Champion in 2014 and 2015 he actually started his British career back in 2015 at Scunthorpe before switching to Glasgow for a couple of seasons.

Last term he started at Peterborough and finished in Redcar and he brings a 5.63 point average to the Diamonds team.

Nike is very excited if not a little bit surprised to be lining up in black and white this season as he commented on putting pen to paper for the Tyneside Club.

“I hope I can bring lot of points and a good positive vibe to the club. I have to say I didn`t really expect an approach from Newcastle but was really happy when they did.”

“The track has always been one of the most hardest tracks for me in UK, but I’m sure I will figure the way round it quick. It’s also going to be a really big step for me to get a home track like that, I can't wait!”

“I also can`t wait to meet and see all the new fans and I’m hoping we all gonna have really good season together.”

Once again commenting on behalf of The Diamonds promotion, Martin Phillips was very happy to be able to confirm Nike’s signing and potential for The Club.

“Nike is an exciting rider with heat leader potential and a stylish aggressive rider who ticks all the boxes. I am really happy to have captured his signature.”

“Nike is well liked by all his previous club’s supporters and I am sure it won’t be long before he is a fans favourite at Newcastle Speedway.”

That makes it two riders now announced with five still to come and makes for exciting times for all connected with Newcastle Speedway with more signing news to follow on very shortly.
