2016 full-term Diamond Danny Phillips and the little brother of one of the Diamonds' greatest Kenneth Bjerre, Lasse, have brought Newcastle Speedway's 2019 jigsaw to completion as both were announced at the club's Christmas party celebrations on Saturday night in Byker.
At a packed event, co-owner Martin Phillips took the microphone and delighted the assembled crowd with Bjerre and Phillips very welcome additions to the previously announced Matty Wethers, Nike Lunna, Max Clegg, Thomas Jorgensen and Victor Palovaara with delight saying: "With Danny and Lasse joining the Diamonds it gives us a superb side filled with experience and youthful exuberance which we believe is the perfect mix to catch our opponents unawares as we head out to put up a solid challenge for honours, and this side if fully capable of doing just that."

Phillips rode a full season for the Diamonds back in 2016 and can draw on a vital eight months of experience while Bjerre has always wanted to be at the Tyneside track after his elder brother, Kenneth, raced at Brough Park before going on to becoming a fine international Danish star, including being a Grand Prix racer on a regular basis.

Bjerre himself is brimming with excitement signing up for Newcastle saying: "It’s always been a bit of a dream to ride for Newcastle. After my brother Kenneth was riding for Newcastle I was over when I was young to see him race at Newcastle and I told myself one day 'I want to ride for Newcastle'.

"But as everyone has seen I haven’t been the best around Newcastle, or tracks like it, so it was not a hard decision to take. If u want to get better at something face it the hard way, plus the people around the team are some really nice people that I have known since I was young.

"Every time I have raced Newcastle's track it has been the same and not many clubs can do that. I have been talking with Newcastle for a few weeks, not only to sort myself, but to help getting a good team together.

"On paper we look really good but the paper doesn’t give us a trophy - we have to do it on track. What I can bring to the team, well I hate losing, I am sure that says all. I want to wish all the fans a really, really good Christmas and enjoy it with your family and friends I am looking forward to see you all in March and remember to keep an eye out on my Twitter or Instagram for giveaways!"
