Simon Lambert finalises reconstruction of the Diamonds' 2019 septet
Tuesday 5th March 2019, 21:18 UK
LAWRENCE HEPPELL
Following the unexpected, but very necessary, flurry of activity thrust upon the Newcastle Diamonds' management over the last few days, the club bosses have moved quickly and completed their "version 2.0" with the signing of former Peterborough skipper, Simon Lambert!

The 30 year-old from Boston in Lincolnshire started his career with home town club, The Barracudas in 2004 and in 2009 he joined Scunthorpe as well as in 2010 winning the prestigious Golden Hammer at Monmore Green in Wolverhampton with a 15 point maximum. In 2011 he signed for Sheffield and also joined Stoke in the third tier winning the National League Pairs the same year. Lambert then signed for Leicester in 2012, and later joined Rye House. He has also had spells with Workington, Somerset and Kent before joining Peterborough in 2015 and re-joining Leicester who moved up to the Premiership.

Lambert, like the previously signed Steve Worrall, had initially been set for action at the Workington Comets before their untimely demise, and has jumped at the chance for this out-of-the-blue restart to his 2019 campaign.

Lambert said: "I’m happy to get a place after the unfortunate Workington saga and it's a new challenge which I'm really looking forward to.

"I've had some good and bad meetings at Newcastle but its always different when you're riding for the home team, so I’m excited by it all and most importantly I must thank family and sponsors for sticking by me as I thought I was going to be sitting at least the start of season on the side-lines! I'm just looking forward to meeting everyone soon, and get some racing for the Diamonds under my belt!"

Newcastle's co-owner, Martin Phillips went on to say: "I think Simon is going to be a good signing for us in our 90th anniversary year and I think most will remember his last race round Brough Park was guesting for us against Berwick and he won his last outing ahead of their top Aussie, Kevin Doolan no less, and we cannot wait to get him out there for his first races.

"He's a well established Championship rider with vast experience at this level, really proving himself as a force to be reckoned with. He can also boast vast success at National League status, so we fully believe he's the right man for the job."
