Diamonds set to regroup for Sheffield's visit next Sunday

Newcastle team manager George English said: "I have to congratulate Berwick on a fine win here tonight as they certainly deserved the win, but with the abject standard of our gating all night letting us down so badly, there was no way we could have put up a decent fight, not when we give the opposition yards head start going into the first bend. We let ourselves down tonight, no excuses."

Those were the stark views of George English who certainly was not prepared to smokescreen the Newcastle "Boiler Technical Services" Diamonds disappointing home defeat at the hands of a buoyant septet of Berwick Bandits who were dramatically and consistently faster from the tapes all night which definately gave them s very sharp edge.

With no away matches this week until next Sunday when the Sheffield Tigers come up from South Yorkshire next Sunday it gives the team a week to contemplate the issues and start their first Championship League meeting with renewed determination and passion for victory.

Scoring at the top end of the side looked solid with Steve Worrall, Thomas Jorgensen and Max Clegg taking nine points a piece, the latter two taking two wins each in their tally with the skipper taking one as well as three seconds, while points elsewhere were unexpectedly hard to come by.

The 2019 Diamonds are significantly better than the opening weeks of the season would suggest, and with the rapid regrouping its hoped Sheffield will feel the force of the frustrations built up so far, and leave Brough Park with the Diamonds celebrating victory.
