With this weekend’s Knockout Cup Semi-Final on the horizon the Newcastle "Boiler Technical Services" Diamonds have brought into their side, subject to BSPA approval, the vastly experienced Danish International racer, Ulrich Ostergaard.

Ostergaard (pictured in red above vs. Matej Kus in white), who was most recently with North East rivals, the Redcar Bears, comes into the team at a time when the Newcastle side face the first leg of the Championship Knockout semi at Edinburgh's Armadale Stadium on Friday without either of their other two Danish riders, Lasse Bjerre and Thomas Jorgensen with Jorgensen also side-lined for the second leg although Bjerre will be back on Sunday after his recent illness.

The unlucky rider to come out of the side is Jacob Bukhave, who has not let anyone down in his short spell with the club, but finds himself another victim of speedway's "numbers game" as clubs put their teams together to meet the sports rules regarding the points limit that a team can build to.

Newcastle Team Manager George English said: "I feel extremely sorry for Jacob who has been a pleasure a work with in the short spell that he was with us. Initially he was brought in on a 28-day trial and it’s one that has worked for both parties but he is yet another rider who can count himself very unlucky to lose his place due to restrictions placed on clubs in terms of points limits. I hope someone else will be able to offer Jacob a place soon as he deserves a decent run in a team.

"However the opportunity arose to bring in Ulrich, and we felt it was one that we couldn’t miss out on, particularly with such a big weekend coming up and the problems we face with putting out a team for those matches.

"With Ulrich in the team we can move Max Clegg back down to one of the reserve spots where he can continue to play a major role for us."
